DAY 1: SAN JOSE - POAS VOLCANO IN ALAJUELA (20 MIN. APPROX.)

Welcome to San José, Costa Rica.

Reception at the Juan Santamaría airport and transfer to the hotel in Alajuela.

Very close to the capital, but in the province of Alajuela, your hotel is right on the slopes of the Poás Volcano. From here you can enjoy beautiful views of the central valley that will welcome you to our beautiful land.

Poas Volcano

DAY 2: POAS VOLCANO IN ALAJUELA - ARENAL VOLCANO (4.5 HRS. APPROX.)

Breakfast in the hotel.

Morning transfer to visit another of the most active volcanoes in Costa Rica. The Poás Volcano has one of the largest craters in the world, rising above the mountainous forests of the Central Volcanic Mountains. You will visit the Poás Volcano National Park, along the route you will be able to appreciate magnificent landscapes of cloud forest, coffee plantations and cultural manifestations of communities surrounding the park.

Then you continue your route to La Fortuna, where the impressive Arenal Volcano awaits you, one of the natural wonders of the country due to its majesty. Today there are no lava eruptions, but you can still see the smoke and ash that spews out of the top of the volcano. The Arenal Volcano region is an exquisite destination for its attractive landscape, its hot springs and Lake Arenal. During the tour you will be able to see agricultural plantations, ornamental plants and livestock farms.

Poas Volcano

DAY 3: ARENAL VOLCANO

This day in the morning you will travel to The Arenal 1968 Park Viewpoint. Enjoy the most extraordinary views of the Arenal Volcano on a walk along the base and slopes of this giant in the Arenal 1968 park. For this excursion we have chosen one of the most extraordinary trails that will take us to the lava flows of 1968 among an enormous wealth of local flora and fauna plus a great opportunity for bird watching and animal encounters.

At the agreed time we will have the tour of the organic farm, we will enjoy a cultural activity of milling sugar cane in the troja of the trapiche with tasting of three different derivatives: cane juice, cane guaro and peeled cane segments.

We will also be able to taste the fruits in harvest of the farm and receive the class of tortillas, where you will have to demonstrate your skills to knead and prepare the tortilla with the palms of your hands.                                      

At the end, you will delight in a delicious typical Costa Rican organic lunch prepared on a wood fire and buffet style.

Hiking in Arenal Volcano

DAY 4: ARENAL VOLCANO

Today we will visit the Tenorio Volcano National Park and its charming Celeste River. We will have a walk of approximately 7 kilometers through the tropical rainforest in the middle of the jungle. Our first visit in this wonderful park will be the mysterious and charming Celeste River Waterfall, whose sky blue color makes it a popular attraction in this National Park. Continuing the walk along the trails through the forest you will reach “Los Teñideros” which means "the dyeing pools" and is the point where the river begins its unique color. You will also visit the famous “Borbollones” or bubbling pools to learn more about volcanic activity. As you walk the trails, you may encounter some resident animals passing through the forest. Finally, your reward will be an exquisite traditional lunch

Celeste River Waterfall

DAY 5: ARENAL VOLCANO - RINCON DE LA VIEJA (3.5 HRS. APPROX.)

Today you travel to the Guanacaste Province to the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, one of the five most active volcanoes in Costa Rica. Rincón de la Vieja is considered a fascinating volcano due to its unique characteristics, like sulfurous lagoons, relaxing thermal springs, boiling mud pits, fumaroles, and its main active crater. Lush, dense vegetation surrounds the area, home to a plethora of insect and wildlife species.

Rincon de la Vieja

DAY 6: RINCON DE LA VIEJA

In the morning hike to the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park, the most active and largest volcano in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. It has 9 craters, volcanic cones, fumaroles, geysers, bubbling mud pots and many other attractions at its summit, giving you an experience that you will not find in any other volcano in Costa Rica. With our bilingual naturalist guide, hike the 3.5 km trail through dry tropical forest to enjoy the best views of the volcano, volcanic activity, incredible nature and wildlife sightings. You will be able to see more than 300 species of birds and many other animals, such as bays, armadillos, coatis, iguanas, white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys and spider monkeys.

Later, you will visit the fascinating Oropendola Waterfall with its impressive 25 meters, where you can cool off in its emerald green water that will leave you speechless.

After relaxing for a while at the Waterfall, our day trips to Guanacaste end with the walk back to the Hotel.

Oropendola Waterfall

DAY 7: RINCON DE LA VIEJA - GUANACASTE, PAPAGAYO GULF (1.10 HRS. APPROX.)

Departure to the Pacific coast of Costa Rica in the Guanacaste region. This province has earned a name for itself as a tropical paradise with a pristine coastline, beautiful mountains and a series of majestic volcanoes. You can also do different activities, whether nature and cultural.

Guanacaste is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. Free afternoon to enjoy the beach and explore the town.

DAY 8: GUANACASTE, PAPAGAYO GULF

Today you will have the day free and you will be able to enjoy the hotel facilities, enjoy the beach and visit beautiful places in the area.
You can do different activities, whether nature or cultural; You will delight in beautiful panoramic views of the coast and discover the variety of flora and fauna native to the Guanacaste region. You can find the amazing trees of Guanacaste and a variety of monkeys, coatis, armadillos and birds and on a private estate.

    Recommendations:
    1. Passport with no less than 6 months of validity
    2. Travel alarm clock (some hotels have them, others do not; so, it's a good idea to bring one)
    3. Sun block and insect repellent
    4. Shirts: cotton or light synthetic, long and short sleeves
    5. Pants: lightweight cotton or synthetic pants. Bring at least 2 sets of clothes that dry quickly (jeans are not recommended; too slow to dry)
    6. Footwear: lightweight waterproof hiking boots, river sandals (Teva type sandals), tennis shoes
    7. Running shoes / sneakers. If you are not wearing hiking boots, be sure to bring TWO pairs of tennis shoes. As soon as a pair gets wet, wear them when your feet are likely to get wet. Make every effort to keep the other pair dry!
    8. Socks: bring extra pairs in case your feet get wet
    9. Swimsuit
    10. Rainwear: poncho, raincoat, and umbrella
    11. Hat(s) with a brim for protection against rain and sun
    12. Reusable water bottle for walks
    13. Also, extra batteries, mobile device charger and plenty of memory
    14. Cell phone – you can purchase a local phone service chip upon arrival. Be sure also to bring your cell phone charger
